Hadith - “Hang your whip where your wife can see it”

This is reported to be a hadith, and many missionaries and Islamophobes use this to claim that woman are inferior and men can beat their wives.

It is in an inaccurate hadith.

The hadith is unauthentic. Its chain of transmission is rather weak; hence it cannot be cited as a proof

Secondly, it is contradicted by the sound principles of the Divine Law and the well-known practices of Muhammad He said, "
“The best of you is the one who is best to his spouse; and I am the best to my spouse; it is only the noble men who shall honour women; it is only the most despicable ones who shall dishonour them.”
The fact that Muhammad was the most compassionate in dealing with his family (including his wife and children) is well attested by the testimonials of those who interacted with him on  a daily basis; thus Anas b. Mailk who served the Porphet for ten years declared,
“I never saw anyone who demonstrated such compassion and love towards his family as the Messenger of Allah did.”
Furtheremore, Aishah herself (the Prophet’s wife) said,
“The Prophet never struck anyone with his hands: a man or a woman!”
The Prophet respected woman and consulted them even on serious matters, often acting upon their advice. So in conclusion, it is at once contrary to the sound principles of the Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah for anyone to suggest that Islam permits men to coerce women into submission through threats and intimidation’s.
